High School Intern Program
Since August 2008, the DA’s office has been a proud partner with the Troy LaGrone Advanced Technology Complex and DISD supporting their Pre-Law internship Program. Each academic year, 12- 15 Seniors are selected to participate in the internship program. These students come to the DA’s office two times per week to be mentored by current Assistant DAs and Investigators. The students are exposed to every facet of the criminal justice system from intake through trial and even appeals. They intern with many divisions of the office including, Intake/Grand Jury, Misdemeanor Trial, Felony Trial, Family Violence, Civil, Appellate and Investigation. They often times watch jury trials, review offense reports, participate in mock trial and moot court, and take a tour of the jail. The things they learn during their internship cannot be taught in a classroom setting. This exposure allows them to find out if the law is something they truly want to pursue in college and beyond. The program allows the office to give back to the community by helping students learn about the profession and the judicial system.
